Let our grief in this time of loss not be measured by his worth to each us as a person, for then our sorrow will have no end. Rather, as we celebrate BILL’s life, reflecting on what he meant to each of us, he need not be idealized, nor enhanced in death beyond what he was in life, but only to be remembered simply as a kind, good, and decent man, who saw your pain and suffering and tried to ease it; saw your need and tried to fulfill it; saw wrong and tried to right it—right was right; for this is the way he lived. This is the legacy he leaves for us to carry forward, founded in what he said, what he did, what he stood for, and how he lived. Good friends are like stars--You don't always see them, but you know they are always there.

I never met Bill other than through several "group discussions" on facebook. We disagreed on several things! :-) But I always enjoyed chatting with him and appreciated his perspective and calm, measured demeanor. He was easy to like.
