Virgil J. Hengel

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Virgil J. Hengel, age 85, of St. Cloud. Virgil passed away December 13 at the St. Cloud Hospital surrounded by his family. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be private.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 15 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish Prayers will be held at 5 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Virgil was born December 1, 1931 in St. Cloud to Victor and Wilhelmina (Lommel) Hengel. After graduating from Cathedral High School, he married Helen Hamer on June 17, 1952 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. He was enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1954. He worked as a banker in the St. Cloud area and retired in 1990 as a Vice President of Norwest Bank. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, St. Cloud Eagles Aerie 622 and a life member of the Waite Park American Legion Post 428.

Virgil was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and bowling.

Virgil is survived by his children Linda (Roosevelt) Williams of White Bear Lake, Mary (Joseph) Bauer of St. Cloud, Mike (Barbara Terning) of St. Cloud, Karen (Matthew) Raschick of White Bear Lake, Patty (Ken) Schrapp of St. Louis Park, and Toni Thole of Brooklyn Park, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and brothers Victor, Jr and Eugene.

Preceding Virgil in death were his parents, wife Helen, and sisters LaDonna and LaVonne.
