Verlyn J. Schmidt

February 10, 1930 – July 4, 2016

Memorial services will be Friday, July 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace United Methodist Church in Paynesville for Verlyn J. Schmidt, age 86 of Paynesville who passed away Monday, July 4, 2016 at the Emmanuel Home in Litchfield. Reverend Bob Kandels will officiate. Inurnment will take place with military honors at the Paynesville Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at the church. Arrangements are being made by the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home, Paynesville.

Verlyn was born February 10, 1930 in Eden Valley, Minnesota to John and Mary (Pfingsten) Schmidt. He married Luella P. Anderson on March 28, 1953 at the Paynesville Methodist Church. Verlyn served his country in the Unites States Army during the Korean War. He farmed in Eden Lake Township and later he was employed by Langmo Farms, he retired in 1982 and moved to Paynesville. After his retirement he worked part-time with puppies at A Maze’n Farm. Verlyn enjoyed fishing, feeding and watching birds and building bird feeders. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Eden Valley American Legion Post #381.

Verlyn is survived by his wife, Luella; children, Debra of Paynesville, Mary (John) Raskie of Litchfield and Peter of Litchfield; grandchildren, Melissa, Michael and Zachary; great grandchildren, Austen, Faith and Hope; great great granddaughter, Lily; and brother, Paul of Eden Valley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bonita Gunstrom; and brother, James.

Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
