Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of Valerian F. “Val” Henning, 97, of Sauk Rapids will be at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Val passed away on Friday, October 31, 2014 at St. Benedict’s Center in St. Cloud. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Entombment will be in Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum, St. Cloud.
Family and friends may call after 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are with Daniel Funeral Home, St. Cloud.
Val was born on August 11, 1917 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Michael and Fredericka (Steininger) Henning. His family moved to St. Cloud in 1920 and Val graduated from Tech High School in 1935. He married Kathleen M. Reitmeier on October 26, 1944 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Richmond. Val was the owner of Val’s Rapid Serv in St. Cloud and was known for his burgers and fries. He was a member of St. Augustine’s Parish and Men’s Group, Catholic United Financial, St. Cloud Knights of Columbus Council #961 and St. Cloud Eagles Aerie #622.
Val is survived by his wife of 70 years, Kathleen of Sauk Rapids; children, Jackie (Dell) Schott of Chanhassen, Daryl (Luella) of St. Cloud, Charles (Mary) of Bella Vista, AR, Marlin (Vicki) of Coon Rapids, Bill (Barb) of Windom, David of St. Cloud, Lora (Jim) of Wales, WI; 14 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and sister, Carme (Dick) Teske of San Diego, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers; and two sisters.
