Shirley was born on July 4, 1926 in Melrose, Minnesota to John and Edna (Snyder) Schwegman. Shirley went to Tech High School graduating in 1944 and at the age of 18 she had a Civil Service job as a secretary for the Federal Government in Washington, DC. Upon returning to St. Cloud she worked at St. Cloud State University in the office of Admissions. She married Edward P. Thielman on November 29, 1947 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. Shirley worked for 30 years as a secretary at the St. Cloud V.A. Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral and Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Shirley loved her family (all of us) and her special friends near and far. Shirley loved being active and independent at her patio home and cabin hosting family gatherings for home cooked meals and celebrations. She loved anything outdoors; Avon Lake, camping at Eagle Lake with little ones and Briggs Lake fireworks. She and Ed loved RV traveling, especially settling in as winter Texans. For fun she loved casino bus trips and Skip Bo.

Shirley was a fabulous mom, a sweet, strong and independent woman all her life. Even at 90, her sharp memory might show ours up. Her positive energy and love for life will be missed by everyone who knew her. Today our family gives thanks and praise to God for the gift of our mother.

We would like to sincerely thank each staff member and volunteer at Quiet Oaks. They shared their love and compassion with Shirley and her grateful family. All Memorials will be forwarded to Quiet Oaks Hospice House, St. Augusta, MN.

She is survived by her children, Deb McNamara of Rosemount, Bob (Pat) of Apple Valley, Doug (Barb) of St. Cloud, and Mark (Sally) of Tucson, Arizona; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, John M. (Sandy) Schwegman of St. Cloud; sister, Kathleen (Schwegman)Anderson of Tucson, Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Ed in 2010; sister, Marion Romstad; brothers, Bob and Wayne Schwegman.

We are so so sad to have just heard about Shirley. My heart is very sad for all of you. We feel awful not to have known about her. Please know that she was a great neighbor and we had many fun days together when her health was much better. She will be missed.

Dear family. The death of a loved one can be hard to bear. Please take comfort in knowing that your Heavenly Father understands your pain as He too experienced the death of his only son, Jesus Christ. Job 14: 14, 15 shows that God yearns to bring your dear loved one back to life. Please visit the website JW.ORG for more information about this subject. Please accept my heartfelt condolence for your loss.

We are so sorry. I already miss her more than anything. She was fun, loving, supportive, and treated me like a daughter after Ma died. I know the two of them are up in heaven, planning a trip to Washington DC. Our heartfelt sympathies to her children, grandchildren and friends.

Bob and Pat,

Sally and I are sorry to hear of your loss. You have our sympathy
