Scott A. Olson

March 31, 1954 – June 20, 2014

Scott A. Olson, 60, St. Cloud MN made his final flight Friday, June 20, 2014.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 27, 2014 at Christ Church Newman Center in St. Cloud. Reverend Anthony Oelrich will officiate. Military Honors will be held after mass on Friday.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud and after 10:00 a.m. on Friday at Christ Church Newman Center in St. Cloud.
Scott was born to Arland and Elsie (Carter) Olson and raised in rural Sheldon, ND. After graduation, Scott enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He graduated from UND with a degree in Business Aviation. Scott worked for various airlines, he was most recently employed by Sun Country Airlines. Scott was deeply grateful to be able to support his family doing something that he loved. He was very proud of Sun Country Airlines and considered his co-workers the best in the industry and good friends. While working at Sun Country, Scott felt honored to participate in numerous Honor Flights for our military veterans. Without fail, he was known to go way above and beyond to make a memorable or more comfortable flight for his passengers. His colleagues consistently described him as one of the best in the business.
While those of us left to mourn his loss think his departure was much too soon, we are confident in an on time arrival in heaven and we know that he has planned and packed well for this final journey. He had a deep faith in God and was a member of Christ Church Newman Center where so many deep and lasting friendships have been formed. He was especially proud of his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews and cherished the innumerable one on one experiences with each and every one of them on multiple occasions.
His love of aviation was most notably evident in his E.A.A. membership supporting the Young Eagles Program. Inspiring young people to love flying was his greatest joy. Providing airplane rides to people of all ages was his greatest passion. Joining the local “fly boys” at various fly in events was one of his greatest pleasures.

Scott was a devoted Husband, Father, Grandfather, Son, Brother, and Friend.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughters, Jessica (Sterling) Kuntz, Sadie and Anna; son, Jacob; grandsons, Connor and Carson Kuntz; father, Arland; sisters, Deb (Rod) Garland, Heidi (Allan) Krauter, Holly (Dale) Rosenkranz; brother, Warren (Shirley); brother-in-law, Scott Schmitz; sisters-in-law, Lori (Mason) Mehring and Tammy Lopez; mother-in-law, Delores Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephew, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends all across the country.
Waiting patiently for his arrival and ready to meet him at the gates are his beloved mother, Elsie; cherished brother-in-law, Bill Lopez; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
To those who were fortunate to have known him, we ask that you honor Scott’s memory by sharing a favorite memory with a friend…..preferably the long detailed version!
They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount up with wings as eagles. Isaiah 40:31.

words cannot describe the loss I feel in losing.a favorite nepghew. wwe shared common inters

So sorry for your loss of a great father and husband. Scott was a friend of mine for 20 years and I feel honored to have had such a happy, positive person in my life. I was one of the few that was lucky enough to sit jump seat in the 727 to JFK while he was at the helm. What a great pilot and mentor that was taken too early from us.

Scott and I shared a commuter house in NYC when we were pilots with Eastern Airlines. I will always cherish my friendship with Scott. I planned to attend the services, but my flight went non-routine. My heart goes out to Becky and family. Love, Mike and Mary Lou

When SCA flew to ORD many years ago, I was the station rep. Scott was always a pleasure to know and to work with. My thoughts and prayers go out to the Olson family.

We are so sorry for your loss. The loving community of Newman Center is holding your family up in spirit with a warm embrace.

May God bless and keep you,
May God’s face shine on you,
May God be kind to you and give you peace.

Sincerely,
Fellow Newman members,
The Bierbaum Family

Scott was always a pleasure to fly with! He will truly be missed at SCA. God bless your family during this difficult time.

Becky and family, Neil and I send our prayers and sincere sympathy.to all of you. He will be missed by so many people. I just talked to Scott a few weeks ago. He wanted some advice about a house. As usual, besides talking business, he had me laughing on the phone. He brought so many smiles to so many faces. I was lucky enough to have flown with him on Sun Country a few times. He wasn’t the average pilot by any means. He didn’t just do his duties on the microphone when he talked to his passengers. He would throw in something to make them laugh. And Neil still talks about what a great pilot he was–such smooth take offs and landings. He was definitely born to fly. We will miss him greatly and it was an honor to have known him. God will take care of him now and I know he will be looking down and watching over his family. RIP Scott!

Scott’s entire family are in my thoughts daily. Believe me when I say I know what you are going thru as I lost my husband suddenly in a tragic accident just about a year ago! He grew up neighbors to the Carter’s on the farm. Am praying for you all as you start this journey of grief and transition.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family Becky. I am so very sorry for your loss. I am sending you may prayers for peace and joy in the many memories you have. It is never easy to lose the people we love and no matter how long we have them it is never long enough. May God bless all of you during this difficult time..Verna Metzger

I’m so grieved by this loss of a loving, successful man in every aspect of life. We visited @ the local “fly-ins” and funerals of family members over the yrs. He was my 1st grade square dancing partner! Good memories for 12+ yrs! He is so missed,,,I pray for him and his family, fervently. I lost my husband, and my 3 kids lost their father, 13yrs. ago from a small plane crash, such a terrible fact to have in common with the Olson Family. Sympathies , always….

To Becky, Sadie, Anna & Jake & Jessica and family who we heard much about, the girls and I are so sorry for your loss. What a great guy he was. He was so generous with his time, toys and skills. He had such an inclusive, joyful way about him. He taught the girls to waterski, showing never ending patience to two goofy kids that played with his kids one week out of the year. That one week of the year made us feel very close to your family. God bless you guys. Much sympathy to you on your great loss. It seems somehow fitting that he departed this earth sharing his joy with someone else.

Im so sorry for your loss.

My heart aches for you, Becky and family. Scott was a joy to fly with. You now have a new angel watching over all of you. RIP Captain

To ALL of Scott’s family, we grieve with you and celebrate his arrival in our Savior’s presence. We had some good times with you folks at Royal Starr swapping stories, having a few laughs listening to Scott tell stories of his piloting career and his jokes. May you all find peace as you go through this difficult time.

Remembering Scott recalled this fitting old poem: Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds – and done a hundred things you have not dreamed of – wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there, I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air…Up, up the long delirious, burning blue, I’ve topped the windswept heights with easy grace where never lark, or even eagle flew – and, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God. Keep soaring Cuz.

Many memories of Scott and his love for Sun Country, his passengers, the team members, you will be missed greatly.
You were always looking after those you cared about and sharing you love for your family with us.

Was always a pleasure communicating with you while you called in giving your ETA……we had some good laughs. Thank you for being so polite and patient when you had a wait a while for a gate on those cold winter nights. Wonderful person.

I just saw Scott this past Wednesday. I was coming in from a AM turn and he was walking to crew room to check in. “Hi”s were exchanged and a big smile even though he was in a conversation. Keep smiling Scott! Our paths will cross again!

I am so sad to hear about Scott. I remember him well from my younger years. When he and Becky were dating:)…I knew him as Jessie’s dad. Scott gave me many experiences from bailing hay on his parents farm to going to ShowBiz Pizza. He took me on my first ever snowmobile ride and I remember his laugh and smile the most. I’m so lucky to be one of the many Carter cousins who got to grow up together and form life long memories. I was at Uncle Harlan’s the first time I saw a deer hanging from the tree and I was so scared…of course, you guys laughed at me and thought it was pretty funny. I’m so glad you continued to laugh often. I know you are reunited with our loved ones. Becky and family; my most heartfelt sympathy to all of you. Thank you for all you’ve done for Mom and Dad through out the years. May God’s love and arms continue to surround you.
