Robert S. "Bobby" Aleckson

September 1, 1927 – October 8, 2014

Funeral services celebrating the life of Robert S. “Bobby” Aleckson, age 87, of Paynesville will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2014 at Paynesville Lutheran Church. Bobby passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Koronis Manor Care Center in Paynesville. Reverend Paul Shumaker will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Santiago.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday at the church. Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home, Paynesville.

Bobby, the youngest of ten, was born at home on the family farm on September 1, 1927 in Glendorado Township, Benton County, Minnesota to a loving and Christian family. His parents were Richard and Christina (Nelson) Aleckson. Bobby was very proud of his Norwegian heritage. At thirteen years of age, Bobby’s father passed away, he and his mother then moved to Oregon to be near family. In 1945, Bobby joined the US Navy during WWII, with his mother’s signature, serving on a destroyer in the Chinese Theatre. He loved the Navy and was known as the blonde bomber. He was honorably discharged in 1948 and found employment at Northrup King Seed Company in Northeast Minneapolis, retiring after 34 years. He married Ruby Johnson on November 25, 1950 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Princeton. They lived in North Minneapolis, Brooklyn Park, Hayward, Wisconsin and retired to Paynesville in 1994. Bobby was a member of the VFW Post #806 of Princeton, Paynesville American Legion Post #271 and Paynesville Lutheran Church.

Bobby enjoyed living life to the fullest. He loved watching and playing sports, playing cards and socializing. He was a generous and kind person who found the good in everyone he met. Bobby was a dedicated and loving husband, father and grandfather and above all treasured time with his wife, children and grandchildren. His enduring faith got him through many trials in life and he passed on his love of God to his family. He will be remembered for his engaging smile and beautiful gardens.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife; Ruby of Paynesville; children, Lynn (Douglas) Skinner of Brownsville, Roger (Sue) of Upsala; Delver (Sheryl) of Maple Lake, Danny of Paynesville; 11 grandchildren, Christopher (Kamaria) Skinner, Jenny (Shawn) Lyman, Amanda (Darren) Allen, Jesse (Michelle) Aleckson, Reuben (Amy) Aleckson, Lizzie (Miles) Moench, Heather, Brett (Emily), Reid (Alyssa) and Luke Aleckson; 10 great grandchildren, Annabelle, Amelia, Elliott, Judah, Anders, Evie, Lucy, Trygg, Teagan and Xavier; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marian Aleckson, Mabel Anderson, Sharon (Jim) Skarohlid, Raymond (Arlene) Johnson, John Johnson, Jerry (Barb) Johnson; and many special nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Joshua Paul Skinner in 1998; sisters, Arvilla Halgren, Belle Almlie, Gladys Wold, Anne Sharp, Beulah Erickson, Hazel Severson, Lillian Nelson, Pearl Aleckson; and brother, Arnold Aleckson.

Bobby’s family would like to give a special thank you to all of the caregivers over the years for their loving and compassionate care.
