Nick T. Wiering

July 15, 1921 – May 20, 2015

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Nick T. Wiering, age 93, of Paynesville. Nick passed away suddenly on Wednesday, May 20 at the Koronis Manor in Paynesville. Reverend Glenn Krystosek will officiate. Burial will take place in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Little Falls with full military honors. Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. Arrangements are with the Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

 

Nick was born July 15, 1921 in Big Sandy, Montana to Nick, Sr. and Catherine (Bakker) Wiering. The family moved to the Tyler, MN area in 1922. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1942. He served in the Atlantic and Pacific Theaters and was honorably discharged in 1945. He married Roberta Brown on October 1, 1949 in Tyler, MN. They farmed in the Tyler area before moving to Brooklyn Park in 1959 where he worked for Bishman Manufacturing as an assembler. Nick valued education and would obtain his High School Diploma while working and raising eight children. They retired to Paynesville in 1985, where he served the community by donating his time and labor by mowing grass for the local airport, volunteering for the Senior Center and Paynesville Library. Nick was an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church where he was an usher and acolyte. He was also a member of Paynesville American Legion Post 271.

He is survived by his four sons; Tom of Carlos, MN, Robert of Osseo, MN, David (Lila) of Parkers Prairie, MN, and Leon of Waverly, MN, four daughters; Kathy (John) Ed of Alexandria, MN, Brenda (Gary) Krohnfeldt of Lenoir City, TN, Ellen Tangren of Otsego, MN, and Judy (Greg) Malark of Scottsdale, AZ, 13 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, brother Clarence (Agnes) of Tyler, MN and Earl (Marion) of Marshall and sisters Helen Petersen of Tyler, MN, Dorothy (John) Gockowski of Shoreview, MN and Beverly (Richard) Wambeke of Marshall, MN.

Nick is preceded in death by his parents, wife Roberta (2010), siblings Arthur, James, Mary Bontje, and Agnes Nihart.
