Nicholas was born on September 16, 1938 at Clements, MN the son of Nicholas J. and Cecilia A. (Guetter) Walter, Sr. He grew up in the Clements, MN area and attended Morgan High School where he graduated with the class of 1956. He was united in marriage to Joan A. Hauser on June 4, 1963 at St. Mary’s Basilica Catholic Church in Sleepy Eye, MN. Their marriage was blessed with six children. Mr. and Mrs. Walter lived most of their married life on a farm east of Clements, MN where they raised their family. Nick owned and operated his own construction company with Joan for most of his adult life. For health reasons, he moved to St. Cloud, 2 years ago.

The Catholic faith was very important to Nick and Joan, and they also enjoyed their time in the outdoors and Polka Dancing. Through his illness, Nick defied the Doctor’s odds many times and fought the good fight in a very honorable way.

In addition to his parents, Nick was preceded in death by his wife Joan on August 2, 2001.

He is survived by: his six children; Marie (Gary) Vogt, Chris (Dan) Walter, Nicholas Walter, III, Amy (Mike) Schultz, Daniel (Kris) Walter, Larry (Diane) Walter, 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren; three brothers, Leonard (Alice) Walter, Andrew (Sharon) Walter, Mike Walter; two sisters, Dorothy (Jerome) Huiras, and Arlene Walter, other relatives and many friends.

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family of NIcholas Walter. Nicholas was a great friend and a good example of an apostle of charity. He was very happy and resigned to the condition that befell him and considered it a great blessing to be able to prepare for death the best way possible ~ offering everything up for the Love of God with total resignation to His Holy Will. These last two years when our children would visit him and play concertina, he would light up and make everyone feel ‘right at home’ with his joviality and hospitality. We never knew whether or not he was in pain or having a bad day as he was always cheerful. He was a great example to all of us and we are going to truly miss him. As he has now experienced what awaits all of us, may we follow his example of charity and great love for Our Lord and His wonderful Mother. ~Bruce and Leticia & family
