Michael G. Sauerer

August 16, 1953 – June 23, 2014

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, June 27th, at 11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church in St. Augusta, for Michael G. Sauerer, age 60, of St. Augusta, formerly of St. Cloud, who died on Monday while golfing the sixth hole at Boulder Ridge Golf Course in St. Cloud. Rev. Robert Rolfes will officiate. Inurnment will be at Assumption Cemetery in St. Cloud with full military honors. Friends may call on Friday after 9:30 AM at St. Mary’s Help of Christians Parish Center in St. Augusta.
He was born to the late Rudolph Aloysius Sauerer and Dorothy Mary Sauerer nee Harrod, August 16, 1953, in St. Cloud, MN.

Michael graduated From St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 1971, playing on the 1968 State Championship basketball team as a sophomore and serving as co-captain his senior year. He earned 3 varsity letters in basketball and was also a member of the CHS golf team.

Michael served in the United States Air Force 1971-75, stationed at Eielson Air Force Base, Fairbanks, Alaska, earning an honorable discharge. He served as a Sous Chef at La Sofitel in Bloomington and earned a Baking Certification from Dunwoody Institute, Minneapolis, MN.

Michael was an active golfer, outdoorsman, a voracious reader and rabid sports fan. He had an eclectic taste in music and a vast collection. He loved studying military history, hunting and fishing. He attended Saint Mary’s Help of Christians Catholic Church of St. Augusta.

Survivors include his mother Dorothy, St. Augusta, brothers and sisters, Karen Garcia-Paz (Antonio) Overland Park, Kansas, twin sister, Maureen Schultz (Jon) Milwaukee, WI, Robert Sauerer, St. Cloud, T.J. Sauerer (Maureen) Minnetonka, Richard Sauerer, Scandia, Rebecca Sauerer, Minnetonka, nieces and nephews, Monica Garcia-Paz, Lauren and Matthew Schultz, Rudy Sauerer, Devon, Zachary and Caelyn Sauerer, and Hunter Sauerer.

He was preceded in death by his father Rudy, September 6th, 1968.
Memorials are preferred to the Disabled American Veterans.
