Matthew Doom

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 Noon on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at St. Louis Catholic Church in Paynesville for Matthew John Doom, age 26, of Clearwater, FL and formerly of Paynesville, MN, who passed away on December 17, 2019 in Clearwater, FL.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the Memorial Mass at the church.  Arrangements are with Daniel-Anderson Funeral Home in Paynesville.

Matthew John Doom was born on January 19, 1993 to David and Julie (Baklund) Doom in Willmar, Minnesota.  Matthew graduated with honors and was active in wrestling, football, track and baseball.  In football Matthew had the school record for 58 solo tackles in a season, also school record for 109 solo tackles in a career.  He also did very well in wrestling with a record of 94 wins and 30 losses, which included 46 pins and only pinned 9 times, was 2011 state runner up and 2010 state entrant.  During his junior and senior years, he worked for Ron and Judy’s Restaurant in Paynesville as a cook. After graduation he attended Moorhead College for 2 years and went on to work for Jon Baklund in the tool and dye field.  In that time frame he also started a DJ business called Midnight Blue.  He had a love for music, playing the piano and saxophone in school. He also worked for Delbert Kingsritter, where he loved driving tractor and had a love for riding horses.  In January of 2019 he moved to Clearwater, Florida to start a business with his brother, Justin Baklund in which they called it B & D Machining.

Matthew was an outgoing person who always wanted to be the best that he could be.  He excelled in everything he did.  Matthew was a hard-working man, that would help out anybody.  He was a beloved son, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend of many and will truly be missed by all that knew him. He had a sparkle in his eye and a smile that would light up the room.  He had many hobbies such as fishing, hunting and golf.

Matthew is survived by his mother, Julie (Ruter) Doom; father, David Doom (Tammy); brothers, Michael Doom, Justin Baklund and Jordan Warnke; grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, 1 niece, 2 nephews and many cousins.

He was preceded in death by great grandparents, Clause (Anna) Ruter, John (Alice) Lecocq, Mathias (Josephine) Morin and Joseph (Bernice) Doom; grandparents, Dorothy Ruter, Lucas Ruter and Elton Sletta; great aunts, Victoria LeCocq and Terry Marie Doom; great uncles, Ronald Doom and James Miller; uncle, Michael Ruter.
