Daniel Funeral Home & Cremation Service

Marilyn J. Rubald

May 10, 1942 – October 14, 2018

Marilyn Jeanette Rubald passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 14, 2018, at her Harbor Chase assisted living residence in Naperville, Illinois. She was 76 years old. Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Minnesota until her move to Naperville last year to be closer to her Illinois relatives. Funeral services will be held at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said by the Reverend Douglas Liebsch at 12:30 pm. Visitation will precede the Mass beginning at 10:30 am. Entombment in the Assumption Mausoleum, St. Cloud, will immediately follow the service.

Marilyn was born on May 10, 1942 at the St. Cloud Hospital, the third child and only daughter of Quintin T. and Hazel J. (Elliott) Rubald. After graduating from Cathedral High School in 1960, she moved to St Paul to attend St. Catherine’s University. Upon her graduation in 1964, she began a lifelong career in education taking a position at St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Paul. In 1967, she moved to the St. Paul Public School system at the high school level. In 1979, she advanced her teaching career with a move to the St. Paul Technical College, where she remained until her retirement in 1998. While teaching others, she advanced her own education as well, earning an MA in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1973, and a Specialist in Business Education also from the U of M in 1979.

Marilyn had a well-recognized soft spot in her heart for dogs and cats, particularly of the shelter variety. Occasionally we had to remind her it wasn’t necessary that she save all the animals looking for a good home. In 2000, she moved back to St. Cloud to be closer to her family, particularly her aging parents. She took the role of their primary care giver and care manager. Marilyn provided loving care for both until they passed on.

She renewed her membership in St. Paul’s Parish upon her return in 2000. She was also a member of the National Education Association, Minnesota Education Association, and the Minnesota Federation of Teachers.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Quintin T. Rubald, Jr., and a sister-in-law, Florabel Rubald. She is survived by: brothers Elliott of Clear Lake, MN and Cy (Angela) of Naperville, IL, sister-in-law Delores Rubald of Cross Lake, MN, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
