Lucia Catherine Meyer

July 11, 1914 – January 5, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, January 10th, at 10:30 AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in St. Joseph for Lucia Catherine Meyer, age 102, of Avon, who died on Thursday at her home, surrounded by her loving family. Rev. Jerome Tupa, OSB will officiate. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday between 4:00-8:00 PM and on Tuesday after 9:30 AM at St. Joseph Heritage Hall. Parish Prayers will be at 6:00 PM on Monday.

Lucia was born July 11, 1914 in Minot, ND to Peter and Margaret (Frost) Holbach. She married Jerome Meyer on August 27th, 1940 in Minot, ND. Lucia met her future husband Jerome, when he was working in Minot, ND. They moved back to Central Minnesota and lived in Waite Park many years. They moved to Avon in 1974. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and did volunteer work for the Wetterling Foundation.

Lucia and Jerome bore 10 children and she tended to many housekeeping and child rearing duties necessary for a large family. She also maintained meticulous financial records for the construction business that Jerome had begun and ran for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, flower gardening, bird watching, jigsaw puzzles, and watching the Minnesota Twins. Lucia’s family meant the world to her and she enjoyed every minute spent with them. Lucia will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her children, Marvel Brown, St. Joseph, Marlene Meyer, St. Louis Park, Geri Twedt (Mike) St. Joseph, Jeanine Okland (Dale) St. Cloud, Georgia Mehr (Ron) Eau Claire, WI, Jay Meyer, St. Joseph, Mike Meyer (Cheryl) Avon, Wayne Meyer (Cheri) Avon, and Lynette Lozinski (Bob) St. Cloud, 18 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, sisters Esther Ruelle, Minot, ND, and Dorothy Cooper, Boynton Beach, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jerome, July 17th, 1999, infant daughter Mary, 1951, brothers, John and Frank Holbach and sisters Bertha Holbach and Helena Twite.

The family would like to thank Heartland Hospice for the excellent care given to their mother.
