Lowell G. Higgins

March 6, 1931 – November 25, 2017

Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 1, 2017 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in St. Cloud for Lowell G. Higgins, age 86, of Waite Park, who passed away Saturday, November 25 at the Cherrywood Advanced Living in Richmond. Reverend Janine Olson will officiate. Entombment will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery at a later date.
Visitation will take place one hour prior to services at the Church. Arrangements are with the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Lowell was born March 6, 1931 to Vernen & Gladys Higgins in Noonan, ND. The Dr. told his parents that because of the dust bowl he would die if they didn’t move. They moved to Amore. He grew up in Amore, Battle Lake and Minneapolis. He served in the Air Force. He had thought about making a career in the Air Force until he was transferred to Tooley AF Base in Greenland. Lowell married Donna Hanson and with this marriage were blessed with 2 sons. They divorced. He married Darlene Kallevig and were blessed with 2 daughters. He worked at North West Airlines and Pine Bend Refinery in Rosemount. After 30 years he retired from the maintenance department of the Bloomington School District.
Lowell enjoyed being active and spending time with his family. He taught his 4 children, family and friends to water ski. He enjoyed fishing, boating, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, biking, deer hunting, golf (and was proud of his hole-in-one), traveling the United States in the fifth wheel, hiking in the desert, and spending the winter in Apache Junction, AZ. He was a member of the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Darlene Higgins; children, Jeffrey (Brenda) Higgins, Terry (Cheryl) Higgins, Jennifer (Tim) Nolan, and Melissa (Kurt) Jacobson; grandchildren, Shannon Higgins, Patrick (Rachel) Higgins, Ryan (Fiancée Mary) Higgins, Connor Jacobson, and Kaitlyn (Tyler) Saucerman; great-grandchild; Christopher Higgins, brother; Dale Higgins; and also including, Alex, Greg, Grace, and Madi
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Veral & Verdell; former wife, Donna Higgins; sister-in-law, Viola Higgins; brothers-in-law, Kallman & Bruce Kallevig.
