She was united in marriage to Raymond M. Maertens on October 19, 1952 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tyler. Ray always referred to Joyce as “Babe”, and together they raised their family in Burnsville. She was a stay at home mother and avid crafter, enjoying painting, crocheting and needle point. After Ray’s retirement, they moved to Longville where they spent their summers at their lake home and enjoyed wintering at their home in Alamo, TX. In 1998, they moved to Sartell, buying a home and eventually moved into an apartment, which was also in Sartell.

Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a very intelligent and quick witted woman. She enjoyed traveling, camping and fishing with her family. She also enjoyed making crafts, and playing card games, especially “65”.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Denise), of Kingwood, TX, Paul, of St. Paul, Julie McConnell, of Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray, of 64 years; and brother, Dean Peters.

I remember your mother from the Arneson get togethers. I always thought she was a very nice person. I like this picture of her. I didn't realize until now how much she looked like her mother. I know she will be greatly missed.

My mother was a wonderful person. I have so many great memories I don't know where to start. The years of Christmas celebrations, vacations all over the country and just sitting around having wonderful conversation about today and the old times. My home is full of reminders from mom. All of the things she made for me and my family, mom is truly still with us. We all loved mom and knew she loved us. At the end of every visit or every phone call we always expressed our love. Thank you for everything, say hello to Pappy for us. I'm sure he's glad to have you back. Love you Mother!!
