Joseph Cordie

December 15, 1935 – August 11, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 14, 2017 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Joseph Cordie, age 81, of St. Cloud who passed away on Friday, August 11, 2017 at Quiet Oaks Hospice House in St. Augusta. Reverend Timothy Gapinski will officiate. Entombment will take place in Assumption Cemetery.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday and after 9:30 a.m. on Monday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud. Parish prayers will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home.

Joseph Cordie was born on December 15th, 1935 in Big Stone City, SD to Joseph and Anne (Schuldke) Cordie. Joe graduated from Big Stone City High School in 1954. While in high school Joe worked part-time for North Star Dairy. Joe served eight years with the National Guard Unit 740th Transportation Company in Milbank, SD. Joe managed a Skelly Oil Truck Stop and Bulk Service in Ortonville, MN, for a number of years before moving to St. Cloud, MN, and worked for Anderson Trucking Service as a heavy-duty truck mechanic for a number of years. From ATS he went to work for International Harvester in St. Cloud as a heavy-duty mechanic and later as shop foreman for 11 years. He then went to work for Harold Anderson at Cold Spring Granite Co. In the parts dept. as a clerk and later transferred to the M&W office to operate a computer in charge of ISO and machine maintenance records and retired in March of 1998. Joe enjoyed fishing and moose hunting in Canada bagging a 1200 lb. moose in 1966. He also enjoyed woodworking and repairing many things; gaming in Las Vegas and local casinos and being with family and friends. Some people saw Joe as a man with all his ducks in a row and a man who had an answer for everything.

Joe was united in marriage to Renee Sealy in Ortonville, MN, in 1957 and later divorced/annulled. Three sons and two twin daughters were born to this union. In 1982 Joe married Marie (Douivea) Buttweiler who passed away in June of 2005. Joe married Bernadette Poepping on August 24th, 2006. Bernie has five children; Ginny (Dwight) Putzke, Judy (Jerry) Thielen, Norb (Claire) Poepping, Ione (Ted) Becker, and Luan (Duane) Eisenschenk; 19 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren.

Joe is survived by his loving wife, Bernie Cordie, his sons; John (Kim) Cordie of St. Cloud; Randy Cordie of Sauk Rapids; Thomas Cordie of Aurora, CO; daughters, Sharon Moen of Ortonville; Karen Dornbusch of St. Cloud; sister, Bernie (Chuck) Struck of St. Cloud; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; Joseph and Anna Cordie, sisters; Mary (Don) Tangenman, Cynthia (Tom) Strei, Delores (Marcus) Becker and Joan (Jack) Cloos.
