James G. Skumautz

February 27, 1928 – October 28, 2016

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 4, 2016 at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud for James G. Skumautz, age 88 of St. Cloud who passed away on Friday, October 28, 2016 at the Country Manor Nursing Home in Sartell. Reverend Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will take place in Assumption Cemetery with full military honors.

Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and one hour prior to services on Friday at the Church. Parish prayers will be held at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Jim was born on February 27, 1928 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to Jerome and Agnes (Young) Skumautz. He worked at Mead’s well drilling during High School. Jim served honorably in the United States Army during WWII where he was stationed in Korea. He married Jean Mamlock on August 28, 1954 at St. Mary’s Cathedral in St. Cloud. Jim was employed at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center and then NSP for 34 years until his retirement in 1986. He then worked for Miller Pontiac driving for 17 years. Jim was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and funeral choir, the St. Cloud V.F.W. Granite Post #428, Eagles Aerie #622, and the Knights of Columbus Bishop Zardetti Council #5548.

He enjoyed woodworking, cards, camping, cribbage, and traveling. Jim especially loved all the time spent with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; children, Jeff (Linda) of St. Cloud, Joan (Patrick) Thyen of Waite Park; grandchildren, Nicole (Reed) Hentges, Erin (Dan) Brum, and Joshua Thyen; great-grandchildren, William and Paige Hentges, and Lillian and Alex Brum; siblings, Pat Honer (Frank Schultz) of Waite Park, Dave (Jane) Oshkosh of WI, Janice Rau of Minneapolis, Carol (Roger) Pfannenstein of Bemidji, Sandy (Bill) Rau of Sartell, Phil (Debbie) Skumautz of Minneapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and two infant sons.
