Henry was born October 24, 1954 in Tacoma, Washington to Alvin Lee and Edith Elaine (Victor) Baer, the fourth of six children. The family was raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he graduated from Washington High School in 1972.
In 1976 Henry graduated Summa Cum Laude from Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota with double majors in History and Classics. His mentor Professor Storvald inspired him to work on a kibbutz and on multiple archeology digs in Israel.
During the 1980’s he managed the Baer’s House of Quality furniture showrooms in Fargo, North Dakota, Rapid City, South Dakota and Billings, Montana.
Henry married Bernadette Marie Becker on August 6, 1988 in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the Gazebo at Munsinger Gardens by Pastor Mark Jerstad. Not only were they blessed with 26 years together, but also with five children: Daniel Becker 25 (Emily Carr) of Huntington Beach CA, grandson, Miles Patrick Baer; James Joseph 23 of Greeley, CO; Rebecca Rose 17, David Samuel 17, and Moses Micah 15 of St. Cloud, MN.
Henry’s faith was central to the choices of his life commitment to his wife, children and service to Jesus. Henry worked hard at many vocations, but his passion in life was his love of Jesus and biblical history.
His faith motivated him to work with Youth With a Mission (YWAM) in California in the early 1980’s, with the homeless in Los Angeles and San Diego and at the Dream Center (a recovery center/half-way house) in St. Cloud, MN.
He attended with his family Christ Community in Greeley, CO. In addition, his children attended Day Spring Christian Academy as he believed a Christian foundation was the greatest gift he could give his children.
In St. Cloud, Henry and his family have been blessed to be a part of Calvary Community Church.
Henry spent many memorable hours fishing in Montana and Minnesota with his brother Al.
His great sense of humor and teasing were expressions of the joy he felt in life and others. Even in his last days, he would ask others about their lives and their problems. His greatest concerns in life were expressing his Love of Jesus in deeds and words; and to care and provide for his beloved family.
Additional survivors include his siblings Constance Baer Youngdahl of Brooklyn Park, MN; Christina Baer Carroll of Fargo, ND; Dr. Alvin (Sandy) Baer and Sarah (Baer) (Jim) DeWitt both of Sioux Falls, SD; Esther Baer of Fargo, ND; his mother-in-law Rose Austin Becker, of St. Cloud, MN; multiple cousins; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.
1 Corinthians 13:12-13
"Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; but then we shall see face to face;
Now these three remain: Faith, Hope and Love. But the greatest of these is Love."

My deepest condolences to Henry’s family and friends. I was a friend to Henry in the late 70’s as he worked at the family furniture store in Fargo. As I read an article today about a mammoth tusk being found in a coal mine near Beulah, ND Henry immediately came into my mind. I was going to reach out to him and let him know about it. He traveled to the “digs” as he referred to them when I knew him. We share the love of Jesus in our faith❤️🙏May God bless and comfort his family now😘Donni (Halvorson) Ybarra

Our deepest sympathy and prayers to all of you. Such a tremendous loss. The wonders of Heaven. Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones shines down to let us know they are with us.

I have been blessed to have Henry as a brother in law. His knowledge and his faith in god and prayer that he not only shared with his his family but unselfishly with others,he will be missed but forever in our hearts…a loving father to my amazing nephews and niece and a proud grandpa to miles.. May we forever remember his teaching in the power of prayer. May you be are guardian angel now and keep us in your loving wings. You are now at peace.
