Hazel Marie Youngmann

November 4, 1946 – August 24, 2016

Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in St. Cloud, MN for Hazel Marie Youngmann, age 69. She died on Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at Sterling Park Nursing Home in Waite Park, MN. The Reverend Greg Lieser will be the celebrant. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date.

 

Hazel was born on November 4, 1946 on a farm near Foley, MN, the daughter of Hubert and Bertha (Gohman) Yougmann. As a young girl she lived with her parents on the farm and later attended the Minnesota School for the Blind in Faribault, MN and also attended and graduated St. Mary’s College in Minneapolis, MN. She then moved back to the St. Cloud Area.

Hazel was an activist for people with disabilities and was appoint to several boards that cherished her opinion and perspective. She made people aware of the everyday issues that disabled people lived with and received several awards for doing this including an inspiration Award from the area’s Disability Awareness Task Force in 2013.

She served on the boards of the Whitney Senior Center, St. Cloud Parks and Recreation Board, the Stearns County Human Services advisory committee, the Commission of Deaf, Deafblind, and Hard of Hearing Minnesotans, the National Federation of the Blind and participated in the Metro Area Transit meetings.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother Paul Youngmann in 2015.

She is survived by, one brother Delbert Youngmann of St. Cloud, MN and one sister Diane Ferrian of Dassel, MN other relatives and many friends.
