Gerald F. "Jerry" Ross

July 18, 1934 – November 23, 2017

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in St. Stephen for Gerald F. “Jerry” Ross, age 83, of St. Stephen, who passed away with family by his side, on November 23, 2017 at the Country Manor Campus in Sartell. Reverend Eugene Doyle will officiate. Burial, with full military honors, will be in the parish cemetery.

 

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2017 and from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday, all at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Parish Hall. Parish prayers will be held at 4:00 p.m., followed by a service by the St. Stephen Volunteer Fire Department at 4:30 p.m., both on Monday at the St. Stephen’s Catholic Church Parish Hall.

 

Gerald was born on July 18, 1934 to Joseph and Sophie (Brinkman) Ross in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He graduated from St. Cloud Cathedral High School in 1951. After graduation, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy and Honorably Served his country aboard the U.S.S. John W. Weeks DD-701. After his service, he was united in marriage to Lorraine Knettel on June 9, 1959 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in St. Stephen. They later moved to St. Stephen in 1965 where they made their home and raised their five children. Jerry worked in manufacturing for the majority of his career, working at both Dezurik and Hanauer Machine as a Tool and Dye Maker. He later retired from Columbia Gear as an Engineering Services Supervisor. Jerry was a member of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Sartell #5276 Bishop Trobec Council.  He also served on the St. Stephen Volunteer Fire Department as a Captain and as one of the first trained First Responders in the area.

 

Jerry loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed attending his children’s and grandchildren’s various sporting and extracurricular events. Jerry also enjoyed taking his family camping at state and national parks. Jerry and Lorraine were both loyal St. Stephen Steves Baseball and Sartell Sabre Football fans. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine of 58 years; children, Michael (Dorine), of Rochester, Eileen (Jerry) Kampa, of Sartell, Timothy (Diane), of St. Cloud, John (Lori), of Sartell, Denise (Jeremy) Christie, of Sauk Rapids; grandchildren, Katie and Joe, Brian (Alex) and Michael Kampa, Shawn (Caitlin) and Brent Salner, Cassie and Ginessa, Lauren, Jackson and Teddy Christie; great-grandchildren, Caden and Reagan Salner; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

 

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Elmo, Clarence, Roman, Floyd and William.
