Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 2, 2018, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Ermaline Kathryn Lahr, age 95. She died on Wednesday, October 24, 2018, at her home in rural St. Cloud.  The Reverend Thomas Knoblach will be the celebrant.  Burial will follow at the St. Nicholas Parish Cemetery in the St. Nicholas-Watkins area.  Visitation will be on Thursday, November 1, 2018, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., with a 5 p.m. prayer service, at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and again one hour prior to the funeral mass on Friday at Holy Spirit Catholic Church.

Mrs. Lahr was born on December 1, 1922, the daughter of Joseph and Christina (Jansen) Schillo in Elrosa, MN.  She grew up on her family’s farm and attended a one room country school near St. Nicholas.  Ermaline was united in marriage to Peter A. Lahr on April 18, 1938.  They moved to St. Cloud in 1942.  They first resided in St. Cloud and later moved to a home on Pleasant Lake where they raised their children.

Ermaline served as a long-time council person for the Village of Pleasant Lake.  She also worked to support her husband, Peter, during his law enforcement career and many years as Stearns County Sheriff.

She was a very loving and caring mother and grandmother.  The accomplishments of her children and grandchildren were a great source of pride to her.  Ermaline was a long-time member of St. Mary’s Cathedral Catholic Church and more recently the Church of the Holy Spirit.  She loved nature, a good card game, and visiting over coffee.  She also had a keen appreciation for cars, was an avid daily reader, and loved learning.  During her later years, she enjoyed watching mysteries, game shows, and the news on T.V. with the cat sleeping in her lap.  She will always be remembered for her indomitable spirit and zest for life.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Peter, son, Stanley, infant twin sons, and grandson, Douglas.

She is survived by her children, Rose, Peter, Paul, and Tina; grandchildren, Valerie, Heather, Stephanie, Rebecca, Angeline, Paul, Peter, and Chester; and, great grandchildren, Travis, Carey, Walter, Leah, Brian, and Calvin as well as her sister, Shirley.

There is always a definitive absence when the ones we love leave us.The smiles, laughter and even the tears are noticeably quiet .The favorite chair is empty. The cat is searching for cuddles. The enormous embrace that Grandma Jo hugged her family and friends with is irreplaceable. These are some of the things we will miss most. God made us all so uniquely divine, so that no one can replace us. The love in our hearts for one another is beautifully designed so that it never leaves us. I love you, Grandma Jo, and although you are resting now, I cling to His promises, we will meet again in heaven. Love from Valerie, Brett and Travis

Mom, I know you are in heaven with God and all those you loved. You never ceased to amaze us with your caring, courage, spirit, and zeal. As you and your mother used to say, “I love you to the moon and back.” May you now have the peace you so deserve.
