A Gathering of friends and family will be held between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud for Bruce W. Burkhard, age 71 of St. Cloud who passed away at the Sanford Heart Hospital in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday, August 21, 2016. The VFW Granite Post #428 will have their ritual at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will take place at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls with full military honors.
Bruce was born on January 23, 1945 in St. Cloud, Minnesota to William and Mabel (Peterson) Burkhard. He served honorably in the United States Army as an Infantry Officer during Vietnam and remained in the United States Army Reserves retiring as a LTC in 1995. He married Linda Winscher in 1973. Throughout his life Bruce worked at First National Bank in St. Paul and then at Spectrum Optical in Sauk Rapids until his retirement. He was a member of the St. Cloud VFW Granite Post #428.
He enjoyed golfing, bowling, reading, gardening, and was an avid Minnesota sports fan. Bruce’s pride and joy was his family, especially his grandsons.
He is survived by his son, Chris (Jenny) Burkhard of St. Cloud; grandsons, Bryan, Colin, and one on the way; sister, Karen (Patrick) McDonough; Linda Burkhard.
Bruce was preceded in death by his parents.

Graduated Tech High School with Bruce, and was a co-worker at Spectrum Optical. He was always a helpful and great guy . Sorry to here of his passing.
